Surfing?
Day9
Today I decided to rent a paddle board since everyone else in the bay was doing it and it looked so fun. It was pretty fun. Ronny and I decided to leave the paddle on the shore and use the board as a surfboard. We were successful, so I guess that means WE SURFED!! Yeah! Sushi for dinner and then to Hanalei pier to enjoy our last sunset in Hawaii. It was not disappointing. We are really going to miss this place, but one of us is going to have an anxiety attack if we dont get home to that sweet baby boy who's waiting for us. Goodbye Hawaii.

Napoli Coast

Day 8
Today we hiked the Napoli coast. It was beautiful. We did a 5 mile run before the hike and at the end of the run Melissa's knee started hurting. The hike is pretty rigourous. It took us an hour and fifteen minutes to get 2 miles into it. After the 2 miles Melissa's knee was hurting enough that we turned around and went home. We did manage to find a leaf I could have used in the day of Adam. :) We bought some fresh fish from the fish market and cooked them up at the house. Yummy!

Helicopter!

Day 7
Today we went down to the south side of the island. We stopped by the water fall they used in fantasy island and we thought it was pretty impressive....... until we went on the helicopter ride. Wow! First time in a chopper and it was awesome. If I ever start flying again its going to be in one of those. We could fly right into a canyon up to a cliff or water fall and just hover there. Melissa and I were sitting in front and I must say we were pretty nervous more than once. We broke all the airplane rules. The island was amazing and we were able to see it all.
Then we drove down see the spouting horn and Pui Po beach. The spouting horn was pretty cool. Its a tube in the lava that fills with water as the waves come it and then the water shoots out a hole upward. There are a few of them on the islands, but this one is unique because there are actually two holes. Air rushes out the small one and sounds like a horn. We didn't think the beach was anything speacial. Kind of spoiled on the north shore I guess.
Finally, we ate the ever famous Puka Dog. Its a big polish hot dog in bread that they have bored a hole out of to accomodate the dog. then then shoot spicy halepeno, with mango, banana, coconut, or papaya relish, and some other yummy stuff in the bread along side the dog. Really is a good hot dog. Melissa says its the best she has ever had in her life!

Zip line.

Day 6
We did the Zipline thing today. It was actually a Zip and Dip because we stopped and had lunch at a swimming hole. The last line "King Kong" was 1200 ft long and fast. It would be cool if they were all like that. Good times.
We snorkelled at two different beaches. Hideaway beach and tunnels beach. This island is just amazing. I don't thing there is a reason to ever go to one of the other islands. This is the Hawaii I imagined as a child. Lush and beautiful. Saw some interesting fish. One type had what looked like a horn coming out of its forehead.. rynofish?

Kauai
Day 5
Woke up and headed out. Flew from Maui to Honolulu to Kauai. Melissa liked the jeep so much in Maui we decided to get one here also. We stopped by Safeway for some supplies and some Ahi Poke and then to Hanalei bay where we are renting a house. The house is very nice and is just across the road from the beach. Ronny and Maggie were just an hour behind us. The house comes with boogie boards and other beach toys as well and some beach cruisers. We decided we would try it all out so we hit the beach. After some boogie boarding we grilled some steaks and ate dinner. Then we decided to take the cruisers for a spin and rode around the town.

Snorkeling and the Lu'au

Day 4
We are still waking up well before 6 each morning. No complaints because we both love mornings and we sit on our balcony with a cup of coffee and listen to the birds as it gradually gets lighter. We did another 5 mile run and then laid on the beach. Lots of people doing the paddle board here. Its a big surf board you stand on and use a paddle to get around. I think I will have to try it in Kauai. After luch we went to snorkel. Melissa got in to about her waist, put her head in the water, saw a 250 pound turtle, and then sat on the shore the next couple hours as I snorkelled. :) It was fun. Lots of beatiful fish.
Evening came and it was time for the Lu'au. Wonderful food and drink with music and dancing done by the natives. Very entertaining.

Whale watching.

Day 3
We started out the day with an attempt to run 10 miles. After we were half way through we stopped by the hotel for gatorade and nutrition. I was able to talk Melissa in to waiting and finishing the next morning. :) We laid on the beach, did a little swimming and then off to do some whale watching. This is something Melissa has always wanted to do. The whales are on their way out, but we were able to see a group of 4 whales playing in the water. Truly amazing creatures. Then to dinner at Moose McGillycuddy's. We headed home and retired early. There luckily has been no shortage of sleep on this trip.
Melissa got lots of comments on her hat, and I was told I looked austrailian.
